Refer a Friend BONUS a scam....at least for me
The process was easy and fast ( I assume b/c my credit score is so high). I took out a loan for one of my businesses ( personally ) a 2 year term and have paid all off but 628.00 in less than 11 months . I have held off on paying this off as they offered a refer a friend bonus" that wanted to use to applied towards this small balance to pay in full. HOWEVER THEY MISLEAD BOTH OF US! THEIR REFER A FRIEND LINK WAS BROKEN WHEN HE RECIEVED IT, I SENT IT SEVERAL TIMES WITH SAME OUTCOME. HE HAD TO CALL TO GET HIS APPLICATION STARTED AND WAS ADVISED THEY WOULD HANDLE WITH THE COMPLETION OF HIS LOAN AS LONG AS HE DID ALL THAT WAS REQUIRED ( GET APPROVED AND OPEN A SOFI BANK ACCOUNT). WELL GUESS WHAT, 6 MONTHS LATER NO REFERRAL FEE AND WHEN I CALL I GET FOLKS OVERSEAS AND SIMPLY TELL ME I AM OUT LUCK AND NOT IN GREAT ENGLISH. THEY WOULD HAVE A 5 STAR RATING BUT HAVE RUINED THAT WITH THEIR SCAM.

SoFi is has a very cool app, BUTTTT....
SoFi is has a very cool app and platform. I began using SoFi maybe 15 or so years ago when I took out a personal loan. Afterward, I started using the Money account after paying off the loan. I then began using the Invest account for trades. Once they introduced the 4.0+ interest rate, I moved majority of my cash to the Savings account. However, after they began reduced the rate, they were no longer the best place to sit my cash. I moved it out. I still enjoy investing through the Invest account. I decided to move a 401k to Roth/Non-Roth IRAs. However, after working with their 3rd party vendor to initiate the transfer, things got difficult. I received checks from my prior custodian, because they did not use electronic transfers. I was told that SoFi would send me self-addressed envelopes to send them the checks. Well, after about 5 days, I received the checks. days later I had not yet received the envelopes from SoFi. Their online tracking was showing that the envelopes had not yet been sent. I tried to contact them and that's where the frustrations began. First chat... Seems whoever is on the other side can't understand the issues or how to resolve, but kept sending empathy message saying they understand how frustrated I am and more canned messages. Then, I tried to get someone on the phone and they refused to assist, even with a general question, unless I sent a photo of my identification card. Then back to chat, I'm told to contact the 3rd party vendor that handles the rollover. The vendor doesn't respond. After this routine for a a Friday and a Monday, I decided, it doesn't make sense to place large investments where I can't easily contact someone for assistance or to move it. Since, I don't like having numerous accounts for investing, I felt it just made better sense to use a company that has on-shore support and support that actually can assist. I'll likely still use the Checking and Savings accounts as initial deposit spots, but will not add anymore money to the Invest account and will gradually move investments as they are liquidated. Also, the change to begin charging for Plus benefits kills any additional engagement I expect to have with them. The only plus benefit I actually used was the automatic 0.2 percent added to credit card cashback. I had already cut back on the occasions that I use it. With their share price falling and the lack of helpful support, I'm concerned the recent changes or announced changes have broken SoFi and customer commitments to them. It has broken mine.

I have 3 high interest credit cards…
I have 3 high interest credit cards with about 10K in balances. Seemed like making monthly payments barely changed the amount owed because so much was going to interest. Decided I'd try to see if I could get a loan to consolidate the debt with a lower interest rate. Downloaded the SoFi app on a Sunday, set an amount that I'd like to borrow, got a few options for different lengths with different monthly payment, picked the one that was right for me, submitted the request for the loan. Within a few minutes, I was approved! Sent in a pay stub to verify income and provided my credit card information and totals and that was it! I was approved on a Sunday without any hassle or need to talk to anyone at all. The very next day, all 3 of my credit cards has pending payments for their entire balances. Couldn't be more happy with SoFi. I took 3 credit cards with about 30% interest and turned that same debt into a loan with only 10% interest with zero hassle and zero worries.

Good but could be much better
I love the app and how it encourages saving and tracking your spending. The APY is great as well, though it has gone down every several months (from around 4.2% to 3.2%). The cons of Sofi are not having a physical ATM for cash deposits or withdraws, which was very inconvenient when I needed quarters. I had to make a bank account with Wells Fargo just to get quarters and then closed the account the same day. They also aren’t very accurate with the spending trackers within the app, so you still have to do a lot of manual tracking. And worst of all, they are useless when it comes to fraudulent charges. They just cancel your card and mail a new one, instead of disputing the actual charge with the offender. That’s been frustrating because I’ve had my card cancelled twice already in two years and they didn’t dispute or block the fraud charges. I don’t feel protected or like my money is secure. I’ve only lost around $125 in fraud charges so far, but I can’t imagine if I had $1,000 or more stolen because Sofi would just let it happen and cancel my physical card after the fact. They need to improve their security and have a better process in place for fraud charges.
